With the weather warming up and National Sun Awareness Week earlier this month, we want to share some important information on how you and your family can stay protected from the sun. Excessive sun exposure can lead to sunburn, premature skin aging, damage to the eyes and even skin cancer. Protect yourself now to avoid long-term consequences.

Here are 5 sun safety tips that will help to keep you protected so you can have fun under the sun all summer long:

  1. Cover up by wearing a wide brimmed hat and light colours to keep cool when spending long periods of time outdoors.

  1. Limit your time in the sun by staying indoors between 11am and 4pm when the sun’s UV rays are the strongest. If you’re going to the beach be sure to bring along an umbrella for some shade.
  1. Look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen that has SPF of at least 15 that will offer protection from both UVA and UVB rays. Sunburns are no fun for anyone. While it is important to protect yourself from the sun, some sun exposure can be good for us. Not only does the sun feel great on our skin, but it also provides us with the vitamin D our bodies need to absorb calcium and promote bone growth.
