Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure to eliminate varicose veins and spider veins. It is considered the treatment of choice for small varicose veins.

The Sclerotherapy procedure involves an injection of a solution (generally a salt solution) into the treated vein. The Sclerotherapy solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to swell and stick together, and the blood to clot. The vein will scar, forcing blood to reroute through a healthier vein. The collapsed vein is reabsorbed into local tissue and will eventually fade.

Treated veins fade within a few weeks, although may take a month or so to see full results. In some cases, several treatments may be required for best results.

Our physicians and nurses are certified phlebologists in both endovenous laser therapy (EVLT) for superficial vein incompetence (SVI) as well as ambulatory phlebectomies for visible large vein removal. At Bense SurgiSpa, we use both sclerotherapy (injection treatments) as well as laser therapies to eliminate these abnormalities.

Bense SurgiSpa offers a number of different solutions to addressing spider veins. With most patients we would recommend a series of combined treatments, which would give you the best outcome. Combined treatments of injectables, lasers, and light treatment will help to reduce and diminish spider veins. Treatments are quick and effective and the patient can resume regular activities straight away. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee new veins will not form in the treated area, so without regular maintenance and follow up spider veins may return. Our skin care experts will recommend a home skin care regime and follow-up maintenance program.
